Derelict Croft/Mill?

  1. Are there many abandoned crofts (farms) in Scotland?

If you only knew how many deserted villages are in Romania, whilst the situation is even worse in Russia, with entire cities and parts of Siberia abandoned!

  2. Dear Bogdan
Yes, there are many abandoned and derelict farms in Scotland. Practically all the rural population of northern Scotland was dispossessed in the 18th/19th centuries in the Highland Clearances.

I;m supposing in Romania it's more recent?

  3. There has been a source of coercion in the 1950s, because of the forced collectivization, then in the 1970s, during a time of accelerated industrialization.

These days it's just the demographic decline...

Some 2 million Romanians are scattered throughout the EU, villages are mostly populated by elders (and sometimes children left behing by their migrating parents).
