Black Isle 2

  1. I understand that it's not a proper island, but a peninsula, but why is it called black?

Is it because the trees can have such a dark appearance sometimes?

  2. Dear Bogdan
Thank you for your comment. There is a lot of controversy over the term 'black' in Black isle.
-Some think the 'Dubh' of the original is a form of St Duthac
-Before it was cultivated it was covered in heather
-Because of the varied geology of the area a lot of the soil is rich and dark unlike most in the Highlands.
