There is a lot of controversy over the term 'black' in Black isle. -Some think the 'Dubh' of the original is a form of St Duthac -Before it was cultivated it was covered in heather -Because of the varied geology of the area a lot of the soil is rich and dark unlike most in the Highlands.
I understand that it's not a proper island, but a peninsula, but why is it called black?
