Corn Field

  1. This is a lovely pic, but having a weird title in my opinion.

    The plants in the field surely don't look like corn (maize) as I know it from Romania or the endless American plains:

    Therefore, I dare asking:
    - are you sure it's corn?
    - or is it that in Scottish English 'corn' can mean any kind of cereals?

    Thanks for your comment, and well spotted!

    Yes, in Scotland 'corn' refers to any cereal, though only barley and oats can be grown as far north as this photo was taken.

  3. Indeed, I checked, and found out that one of the (less used) meanings of the English word 'corn' is 'any kind of cereal' :-)

    Barley is a common ingredient of whisky, while oats is my favourite cereal.

    Oat flakes, oat flapjacks & oat biscuits are some of the most interesting discoveries that I made in the UK:
